Comederito

The second Rotary International project of Comederito is also near Irapuato along the banks of a seasonal stream. During the rainy season they have water for crops but the river has washed out the road to the point that it is impassable when the water is too high.  The community members are ranchers of cows and goats and cultivate corn and sorghum during the short growing season.  Their primary income is from the sale of goat cheese while the corn and sorghum is used for self consumption and animal feed. There are very few opportunities for young adults aged 15 to 21 due to the prohibitive distance to the nearest high school and so nearly all become workers in the nearby industrial park. Like Las Penitas there is one well which services the community twice a week for three hours per shift.
